The IZEA supports the research of scholars from all parts of the world and is especially committed to the advancement of early-career scholars. It does so through fixed-term positions for post-doctoral scholars who specialize in the period of the Enlightenment; invitations to visiting scholars from all parts of the world; and fellowships for Ph.D. candidates and postdoctoral scholars.
Moreover, the IZEA gives undergraduate students in the humanities the opportunity, over the course of a several-week internship, to gain experience in the work of a humanistic research institution.
The IZEA is housed within the Martin-Luther-Universität Halle-Wittenberg. As an institution of advanced study on the cultural and intellectual history of the 18th century, the IZEA contends with a period that laid the foundations of modern western society.
