IZEA - Fields of research

The IZEA oversees both single projects and long-term enterprises. Further interdisciplinary enterprises and collective projects that are led in cooperation with other institutions are also gathered under the roof of the IZEA.

The IZEA presents research in conferences, lecture series and workshops, and publishes it as monographs and edited volumes. The emphasis of the long-term projects is on the editing of academic handbooks and editions of sources. Electronic media play a growing role in executing projects and in publishing research.

Alongside the traditional priorities of research into the Enlightenment, the IZEA encourages the study of new ones: the anthropology of the Enlightenment, the history of universities, esoteric traditions and philanthropy. More recent areas of study include the early Enlightenment, the history of international knowledge transfer and scholarly culture as well as the history of writing, aesthetics and Enlightenment historical discourses.

The research programme of IZEA consists of four areas, they are containing topics and research projects of the members of the IZEA Directory-Board and it's research fellows:

A. Ideas, Practices and Institutions

B. Structures of Knowlegde

C. Spaces of Enlightenment

D. Acquisition Projects and Editions
